This week Senator Jeff Howe (R-Rockville) brought forward a bill that looks ahead to the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. This legislation creates a commission that will focus on outreach throughout the state that teaches Minnesotans about the historic events that led to America’s birth. This will be part of a larger celebration known as America 250, which is a nationwide initiative that will engage the public and celebrate our country’s storied history.
An amendment was brought forward that funds the Minnesota Historical Society and the Minnesota Humanities Center, as they hold meetings, plan, and conduct outreach regarding celebratory activities.
“American history is the foundation of everything else in our country – as we look ahead to our 250th birthday in 2026, it’s important that we start planning everything that must be done to celebrate this milestone,” said Howe. “We want all Minnesotans to have an opportunity to learn about our history and participate in all celebratory activities, which is why this bill should be considered sooner rather than later. This bill will allow Minnesota to join over 45 other states, including all of our neighboring states, as we celebrate the momentous occasion of our nation’s birth. This provides a great opportunity to ensure that Minnesotans have an understanding of how and why the Revolution was fought – it is a critical moment in world history that led to the foundation of our great nation.”
This bill was heard in the Senate Environment, Climate, and Legacy committee and was laid over.
