The Senate Transportation Committee today held its second hearing this interim to investigate failures related to Minnesota’s new vehicle licensing and registration system, called MNLARS.
During the course of the roughly 90 minute hearing, legislators asked pointed questions to officials from MNIT and the Department of Public Safety, the two agencies responsible for the project. The questions included requests for updates on the problems facing the system and a timeline for when those problems will be solved.
Senator John Jasinski (R-Faribault), vice chair of the Transportation Committee, released the following statement after the hearing:
“I am incredibly frustrated and disappointed by what we heard from MNIT and DPS today. After 10 years of development, more than $90 million invested, and mounting problems, it is simply shocking that they are no closer to getting MNLARS fixed. This is a massive failure, and Minnesotans deserve to know when things will improve. Unfortunately, I have no confidence in the administration to provide answers.”
