At the end of the 2017 session, Gov. Dayton used his line item veto authority to eliminate funding for the legislature. Today, a Ramsey County Court ruled the governor’s veto unconstitutional. Sen. John Jasinski (R-Faribault) released the following statement on the court’s decision.
“I am pleased with the court’s decision. The governor’s attempt to eliminate funding for the legislature could have set a dangerous precedent. It was important to show the people of Minnesota that they are guaranteed three branches of government, regardless of whatever policy disagreements those three branches might have. I encourage the governor to accept the court’s decision, and I look forward to putting this issue behind us so we can continue doing great work for the citizens we represent.”
