Minnesota State Senator John Jasinski (R-Faribault) today issued the following statement regarding reports that attorneys for Democrat Senator Nicole Mitchell requested to postpone her trial for felony first degree burglary until after the 2025 legislative session.
“Sen. Mitchell’s attempt to postpone her trial is just an obvious attempt to delay the outcome so Democrats can protect their power in the legislature. It is cynical, ugly politics that prioritizes power over justice for her victim — her aging stepmother with dementia. The Senate must hold its members accountable. Senator Mitchell should not participate in any Senate business – including committee hearings and votes on the floor – regardless of whether her trial takes place at the end of January or this summer. Her actions cast a dark cloud over the Senate, and we cannot restore trust and legitimacy in the body while she is a member here.”
