Kiffmeyer: Celebrating Life — Happy Easter and Passover

Friends and neighbors,

This Easter holiday time reminds me that in life, there are three community structures that uniquely bring people together from the farthest social, racial, and economic backgrounds and often results in people becoming lifelong friends: our Christian faith, the military, and competitive sports.

The Christian faith, however, is different in two ways. First, it is focused on emulating the character of Jesus Christ (love, patience, generosity, truth and more).  The other reason it’s different is because Jesus has already defeated our opponent through His death on the cross — we don’t have to.

Passover, celebrated by our Jewish friends during the same Easter timing, recognizes that the Blood of the Lamb on the doorposts of each home resulted in the Angel of Death passing over that home.

Similar to the Christian Faith, the result is life.

We have many churches in our area that can fit anyone’s needs, and I greatly appreciate our local newspapers for providing the schedules.

My family will be there, and I encourage you to please say hello if we meet at one.

Happy Easter/Resurrection Day/ Passover, everyone!

Sincerely,

Mary
