Minnesota State Senator Mark Koran (R-North Branch) today issued the following statement regarding reports that attorneys for Democrat Senator Nicole Mitchell requested to postpone her trial for felony first-degree burglary until after the 2025 legislative session:
“Senator Mitchell’s delay tactics hinder any form of justice for the victim of her alleged crime simply to enable Democrats to retain their legislative power. Due to her unethical behavior, Mitchell should already be removed from the body, yet we witnessed ongoing instances in which Mitchell and her Democrat colleagues put their political power over the basic principles that guide the Legislature.
The stark irony of the whole situation is that part of Senator Mitchell’s motion is predicated on the fact that legislators are constitutionally mandated to conduct their work on the Capitol grounds. Yet, over the last biennium, Democrats managed to pass their extreme agenda and maintain their majority status through a prolonged reliance on proxy voting. Ultimately, any tears shed over constitutionality concerns are nothing but crocodile tears, as Mitchell and her caucus have shown their partisan influence outweighs constitutional obligations in their eyes.”
