Yesterday Governor Walz announced his supplemental budget, which spends over $225 million in fiscal years 24-27. Included in this number is an increase in spending of $26.6 million in FY 25-27. This will increase the structural deficit, which came to light in the February forecast.
“Every dollar we spend this year will increase the structural deficit in following years – it is fiscally irresponsible and unsustainable,” said Senator Michael Kreun (R-Blaine). “The Democrat trifecta increased government spending by nearly 40% last year and raised taxes by $10 billion. We can’t afford to spend even more money in this non-budget year. We owe it to the taxpayers to be fiscally responsible with their money, and this supplemental budget does the opposite.”
