Senator Andrew Lang (R-Olivia) today presented legislation in the Veterans Committee that funds the purchase of equipment for 3 new Veterans’ Homes across the state. Last year, these homes in Bemidji, Preston, and Montevideo secured federal funding necessary to complete construction.
“This bill is the culmination of many years of work and will serve as the final puzzle piece for completion of these Veterans’ Homes,” said Lang. “Last year, Minnesota secured the final federal funds necessary to get the building process completed, but now we need to make sure these homes are stocked with equipment necessary to serve the Veterans that will be housed there. This legislation will fund beds, chair lifts, scales, and other items that ensure our Veterans are getting the care they deserve.”
The funding will have an immediate effective date to expedite completion. This project has been in the works for over 4 years, and this bill serves as the final capstone to make these homes operational. The construction of these homes is near 20% completion and they are on track to begin taking resident applications later this year.
This bill will now head to the Senate Finance Committee.
