The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) announced recently that they will be investing over $1.7M in Small Cities Development Program funds in Senate District 16.
“These investments are great news for our community and will ease the burden for residents amid ever-increasing costs and will help stir economic development in our region,” Sen. Andrew Lang (R-Olivia) said. “It will provide needed support to our small cities by investing in water quality improvements and rental housing upgrades. Clean water and safe rental housing are critical to promote economic growth and prosperity across Minnesota, and I am grateful DEED has chosen these three worthy cities for investments.”
The Small Cities Development Program grants are administered by DEED and funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The program will be investing $20.8 million throughout Minnesota, and cities with fewer than 50,000 residents and townships and counties with fewer than 200,000 residents were eligible. The funding will be used for commercial and residential property rehabilitation, public facility improvements, and other economic development projects.
The cities within Senate District 16 that will receive funding are as follows:
· City of Franklin – $600,000 for public facility improvements to water main looping and water distribution lines
· City of Maynard – $562,913 for public facility infrastructure improvements to the water tower/tank and water plant rehabilitation
· City of Montevideo – $600,000 for Rehabilitation of 42 rental housing units
