This week the Minnesota Senate reconvened for the start of the 2022 legislative session. Senator Gary Dahms (R-Redwood Falls) was on the Senate floor and released the following statement:
“It feels good to be back in session so we can get to work helping the people of Minnesota,” Dahms said. “Addressing inflation, rising crime, and COVID-19 will all be major issues on the agenda. I am hopeful this year that we can finally eliminate the unfair tax on social security and renew our successful reinsurance program to keep health care costs low for families and small businesses.”
The chamber, unlike last year, was relatively full of members and staff on the floor greeting friends and colleagues after months away from the Capitol.
Senator Dave Osmek (R-Mound) was elected as Senate President and sworn in by G. Barry Anderson, Associate Supreme Court Justice. The presidency was opened when Senator Jeremy Miller (R-Winona) announced he was stepping down as Senate President after being elected as Senate Majority Leader in August last year.
The legislature will continue to be in session until adjournment on May 23rd.
