Lieske statement on Senate vote to expel Democrat Senator Nicole Mitchell for felony burglary charges

Minnesota Senate Democrats today rejected a Republican motion to expel Senator Nicole Mitchell, the Democrat who is currently on trial for felony first-degree burglary. Senate Republicans also offered the motion to expel Sen. Mitchell during the 2024 legislative session, but it failed when every Democrat voted to rule it out of order.

Senator Bill Lieske (R-Lonsdale) issued the following statement.

“This is a matter of integrity. Democrats had the chance to stand with us and restore trust in the Senate and in our proceedings, but they chose instead to protect one of their own. This is deeply disappointing. Minnesotans deserve leaders who reflect their values and uphold the highest standards of accountability. We must do better.”
