A contingent of state legislators visited Buffalo High School on January 29 to tour and discuss the Phoenix Learning Center (PLC). Sen. Eric Lucero (R-Saint Michael), Sen. Jason Rarick (R-Pine City), Rep. Marion Rarick (R-Maple Lake), and Rep. Patricia Mueller (R-Austin) were hosted by Principal Mark Mischke.
“We have incredible teachers and staff serving students in our community,” Sen. Lucero said. “It’s very clear the experience, passion, and dedication of our great teachers and staff is resulting in significant positive impacts in the lives of students.”
Phoenix Learning Center (PLC) is a student-choice alternative high school program serving students from 16 to 21 years of age. Recognizing that there are many pathways for a student to succeed, staff offer personalized learning options in a family-like setting. Small class sizes support an individualized focus, where students learn to be responsible for their own learning plan. Phoenix Learning Center instills confidence and reinforces gratitude and joy in daily life as students work to earn their diplomas.
“Listening to young people share their experiences and how the program transformed their lives and future aspirations was incredibly inspiring,” Lucero said. “As a former educator myself, I’m a firm believer in maximizing the potential of young people through educational opportunities and academic excellence.”
