Senate hearing regarding MNLARS scheduled for November 15

A meeting of the Senate Transportation Finance and Policy Committee has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15 in Room 1200 of the Minnesota Senate Building in St. Paul. The purpose of the committee hearing will be to examine the troubled rollout of the Minnesota Licensing and Registration System (MNLARS), and the public is encouraged to attend.

“The rollout of MNLARS by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) – a project that has been underway since 2008 and cost more than $90 million – has apparently been fraught with significant problems,” said Senator Scott Newman (R-Hutchinson), chair of the Transportation Finance and Policy Committee. “If you talk to car dealers, deputy registrars, and customers across Minnesota, there is serious frustration because of the failure of MNLARS.”

“We are going to have a hearing on MNLARS where car dealers, deputy registrars, and consumers will be given the opportunity to testify about their experiences using this troubled system. We will ask DPS officials very pointed questions about why this occurred, what is being done to fix it, and how we can move forward to make certain Minnesotans are well-served,” Senator Newman continued.

If you are interested in testifying, please contact David Larson, committee administrator, at david.larson@senate.mn.

Senator Scott Newman is in his third term representing Senate District 18, which includes communities in McLeod, Meeker, Sibley, and Wright counties. He also serves as chair of the Senate Transportation Finance and Policy Committee.
