Nelson applauds Families First in Rochester for being awarded state grant funding

Senator Carla Nelson (R-Rochester) today applauded Families First of Rochester for being awarded a new round of grant funding from the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) for community child care providers.

“Community child care is an absolutely vital resource for kids, parents and employees,” Nelson said. “Families First is doing a fantastic job serving our community, and I’m excited to see them serve more parents with this grant funding. Congratulations to everyone on the staff. It’s a great day for families with young children and their employers.”

According to a DHS release, a total of $2.9 million for community organizations will provide training and support for family, friends, and neighbors who provide child care for the youngest Minnesotans. The Minnesota Department of Human Services will distribute grants to organizations serving unlicensed family, friend and neighbor child care providers. Funding comes from the federal Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act and the American Rescue Plan Act.
