Senator Julia Coleman (R-Waconia) today released the following statement on the fiscal note for the Democrats’ paid family and medical leave proposal:
Expanding Minnesotans’ access to paid family and medical leave is essential and a goal that we all share. The enormous fiscal note for the Democrats’ government-managed benefit program, however, is troubling. The high price tag means that it’s not feasible to implement this program without a massive new payroll tax for all employees and employers. That is why it is even more critical that we consider my free-market approach through private insurance.
