Senate Republicans announced Cal Ludeman will be nominated to serve as Secretary of the Senate, a position he previously held from 2011-2013. Ludeman’s considerable experience in state government includes three terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives and service under Governor Tim Pawlenty as both the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the Commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Employee Relations.
“Cal Ludeman’s extensive experience in state government and as a former Secretary of the Senate will allow us to hit the ground running on day one. He will manage the Senate’s administrative functions with a steady hand as we work to make government more transparent and effective,” said Majority Leader Paul Gazelka. “Many Senators consider Cal a trusted advisor, and we look forward to his leadership.”
The Secretary of the Senate is an elected position responsible for managing non-partisan staff offices, providing parliamentary guidance to the Senate President, and delivering legislative information to the public through the Public Information Office.
