Koran’s post is top Senate leadership position on the commission
Senator Mark Koran (R-North Branch) was recently appointed as Vice-Chair of the bipartisan Minnesota Legislative Audit Commission (LAC), the top Senate leadership position on the commission. The LAC is a bi-partisan commission with 6 members from the House of Representatives and 6 from the Senate, equally divided between the majority and minority parties. Senator Koran shares chair duties with Representative Rick Hansen (DFL-South St. Paul).
“The goal of the Legislative Audit Commission is to audit for compliance to the statutory obligations of our state agencies,” said Senator Koran. “Simply put, this commission helps identify and suggest changes so Minnesota government functions the way it should. I look forward to working across the aisle with my fellow legislators in delivering Minnesotans the government they deserve.”
The commission appoints the Legislative Auditor, a non-partisan, independent auditor who reviews government agencies on behalf of the state legislature. Further, the commission selects topics for review and holds hearings to review and evaluate audit reports. The commission chair rotates every two years between the House and the Senate.
“As vice-chair of the committee, I look to bring my over thirty years of professional experience working in and around government to accomplish the legislative goals of increasing government accountability and transparency,” added Senator Koran. “As legislators, it is our duty to ensure effective government, providing great value for our citizens.”
