The Legislative Working Group on Common Interest Communities (CICs) and Homeowners Associations (HOAs), Vice-Chaired by Senator Eric Lucero (R-Saint Michael), is hosting a series of public listening sessions to gather feedback from the public on HOA and CIC related issues. The first session, held Thursday in Maple Grove, saw overflow attendance, requiring additional seating. As vice-chair, Sen. Lucero co-led the event.
The Workgroup plans four listening sessions across the metro to hear directly from Minnesotans about their experiences with HOAs. Comprised of 18 members, the workgroup has been meeting since September, receiving testimony on various CIC and HOA-related issues. Its goal is to make legislative reform and regulation recommendations by February 1, 2025.
“I have received feedback from many people around the state including dozens from across our community highlighting issues, abuses, and conflicts of interest from HOA boards and property management companies,” Sen. Lucero said. “The community listening sessions are incredibly important for Minnesotans to share first-hand testimonies how HOA boards and property management companies are behaving, requiring the need to be legislatively reigned in. HOA reform is long overdue.”
The next community listening session is scheduled for December 19 from 5:30-7:30 PM at Ramsey County Library, 3025 Southlawn Dr., Maplewood.
“I value the perspectives of Minnesotans and I look forward to continuing to hear their voices,” Sen. Lucero said. “I’m also looking forward to championing HOA reform in the MN Senate by chief authoring pro-transparency / pro-accountability legislation.”
