Legislation honors local benefactor and highway construction magnate through ‘Richard J. Ames Memorial Highway’
The Minnesota State Senate unanimously passed bipartisan legislation chief-authored by Senator Eric Pratt (R-Prior Lake) to designate a segment of highway between the eastern city limits of Jordan to Miesville the “Richard. J. Ames Memorial Highway”. The memorial highway honors the legacy of Farmington native and longtime Jordan resident Dick Ames who constructed roads across Minnesota and the United States. Ames also served as an area philanthropist, donating to many local school causes and other civic projects.
“From the Lakeville ice rink to the Jordan High School football field, Dick Ames contributed to countless community projects at no cost to anyone but himself,” said Senator Pratt. “Mr. Ames had one of the biggest hearts of anyone I have ever met. Honoring his legacy in our community by renaming a road, something he spent his entire career building, is the perfect tribute.”
After passing the Senate, the bill now awaits consideration by the House of Representatives. Costs of road signage will be paid for by the Ames family.
