State Senator Warren Limmer (R-Maple Grove) released the following statement responding to the February forecast released today by Minnesota Management and Budget, which shows a smaller surplus for the 2026-2027 biennium, and a deficit of nearly $6 billion for 2028-2029.
“This deficit is the unacceptable result of runaway spending and irresponsible government growth. Minnesotans are suffering under inflation and high taxes, yet the government has done nothing to curb its own spending before passing the costs onto hardworking families,” Limmer said. “To confront the deficit, must curb government growth in a responsible and informed way—working to ensure that your paychecks are protected, your priorities are funded, the waste, fraud, and abuse are stopped, and government overreach and unchecked growth are reined in.”
In 2023, Governor Walz and his legislative majorities voted to spend the $18 billion surplus, increase state spending by 40%, and raise your taxes by $10 bill
