ST. PAUL, Minn – Today, minutes after swearing in newly elected Democrat Sen. Doron Clark (Minneapolis), Senate Democrats introduced a resolution to end the Senate power-sharing agreement that guided the first three weeks of session.
Senate Republican Minority Leader Mark Johnson (East Grand Forks) released the following statement:
“The bipartisan leadership agreement in the Minnesota Senate provided a chance for this body to put Minnesotans first and ensure every voice is heard. It is disappointing, but not surprising, to see this agreement end with the vote of every Democrat today, just minutes after they had the 34th vote.
“Even before the agreement, eight Democrats created the ‘Blue Dog Caucus,’ which claims its members will ‘pursue a practical, bipartisan path forward.’ Today they demonstrated they will always get in line with their political party – acting more like ‘lap dogs’ than ‘guard dogs.’
“Republican members were proud to have taken this time to listen to Minnesotans and ask tough questions of Walz administration officials during the power-sharing agreement. We will do everything we can to continue our work to put Minnesotans first.”
