Statement from Senate Republican Leader David Hann on the Senate Budget Targets
“This spending proposal is reckless and unsustainable. Yesterday we heard Minnesota income tax revenues are falling $70 million behind forecast and the economy is slowing down. Today the Senate DFL answers with $800 million in new spending, eating up the entire budget surplus. This is on top of the $2.1 billion in additional spending approved in last year’s budget. Their earlier rhetoric on being cautious gave way to new spending that balloons in future years. And their earlier rhetoric on tax cuts gave way to more spending on local governments that never seems to result in lower property taxes.”
