Majority Leader Paul Gazelka (R-Nisswa) was unanimously re-elected today to continue to lead the Senate Republican Caucus heading into the 2019 session. Majority Leader Gazelka is in his third term in the Senate representing District 9, which includes Cass, Morrison, Tood, and Wadena counties. He served as Majority Leader during the 2017-2018 legislative sessions and Assistant Leader from 2014-2016.
“The Republican majorities in the House and Senate accomplished historic things over the past two years. We solved the near-collapse of the individual health insurance market, lowered health insurance premiums, lowered taxes, made major investments in roads and bridges, addressed mental health needs across the state, and invested in safer schools for our children. We look forward to working together with the new governor and House majority to continue our successes in 2019.”
Senator Jeremy Miller (R-Winona), was chosen by Republicans to be Minnesota’s next President, considered the second most powerful position in the Senate. Senator Miller is in his third term representing District 28, which includes Fillmore, Houston, and Winona counties. He served as Deputy Majority Leader during the 2017-2018 legislative sessions. The Senate President will be elected by a majority vote of the full Senate body in January.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve as Senate President and welcome the responsibility. Senate proceedings will be conducted with all the honor and respect the people of Minnesota deserve,” said Sen. Miller. “I look forward to getting to work with my colleagues from both parties to make the next session a productive one.”
