In a blistering new report on Minnesota’s Office of Health Facility Complaints (OHFC), the office of the Legislative Auditor determined that the agency has failed in its mission to adequately protect the elderly and vulnerable residents of Minnesota’s senior care facilities.
State Senator Michelle Benson (R-Ham Lake), chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, released the following statement:
“The results of this report will come as no surprise to any of the thousands of Minnesota families who have watched their loved ones suffer abuse and neglect without any answers, but it does emphasize the importance of making serious, systemic changes at the Office of Health Facilities Complaints. They had one job, and they failed.
“I am glad OHFC has mostly caught up on the backlog of complaints, but that is of little consolation to Minnesota families. We need to make sure it never happens again. Now that we have a specific diagnosis of OHFC’s problems and ideas for how to fix them, figuring out the best course of action will be an urgent priority.”
