On August 29, State Senator Bruce Anderson (R-Buffalo) and State Representative Bob Dettmer (R-Forest Lake) presented Major General Jon Jensen, then-commanding general of the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division, with a resolution commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Red Bulls’ establishment. The event was part of Military Appreciation Day. On August 30, Maj. Gen. Jensen was named adjutant general of the Minnesota National Guard.
“It was a privilege to attend the Red Bulls’ 100th anniversary celebration and present General Jensen with a resolution commemorating their service,” said Sen. Anderson. “In difficult times, in times of war, and in times of emergencies, the Red Bulls have always answered the call to aid, protect, and defend their fellow Minnesotans and fellow countrymen. I’m proud Minnesota is associated with their rich history of service and success.”
The 34th Red Bull Infantry Division, also known as the Red Bulls, is a division of the Army that has been deployed during World War I, World War II, and the Global War on Terror. The Red Bulls were the first American combat troops to set foot on European soil in the wake of the attack on Pearl Harbor. First established in 1917, the Red Bulls now operate as part of the Minnesota National Guard.
Senator Anderson is the chairman of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Finance and Policy Committee, while Representative Dettmer chairs the House Veterans Affairs Division.
