Senator Bruce Anderson: Senate Democrats vote to end bipartisanship

Friends and neighbors,

For the past three weeks, the Senate has operated well under a power-sharing agreement. Unfortunately, moments after Senate Democrats swore in their 34th member this week, they voted in lockstep to end this cooperative approach to government.

We previously heard from a group of eight Democratic senators this year–the “Blue Dog Coalition”–who promised to bring “bipartisan solutions that serve all Minnesotans.” Yet every single one of these members still followed the lead of their party and voted to end bipartisanship in the Senate.

Given the significant work ahead of us, bipartisanship is crucial to getting things done. I remain hopeful that in the coming months, we will embrace a more collaborative approach—one that prioritizes the needs of Minnesotans above all else.

Constituents at the Capitol

We had lots of great constituent meetings this week!

I had the opportunity to meet with a group that visited the Capitol for Minnesota Farmers Union Day, where they advocated for a stable budget for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. Additionally, I met with AFSCME corrections officers who shared ways in which legislators can support our officers. I also spoke with representatives from the Minnesota Milk Producers Association about their policy priorities for this year, including investments in livestock research and agricultural infrastructure. Finally, I met with representatives of Minnesota’s Optometrists, who shared policies to ensure Minnesotans continue to have access to quality eye care.

My office is always open to constituents, and I invite you to stop by the next time you’re in St. Paul! Your input is invaluable as we work together to address the issues that matter most to our community.
