Senator Drazkowski kicks off the 2024 legislative session

Minnesota State Senator Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa) returned to the capitol on Monday, February 12 for the beginning of the 2024 session of the Minnesota Legislature. The agenda and debate this session will be shaped in large part by the forthcoming February revenue forecast, scheduled to be released later this month, which will detail the state’s financial picture. A report issued by the office of Minnesota Management and Budget last December projected a budget surplus for the upcoming session and a $2.5 billion deficit in the following budget cycle.

This session, Senator Drazkowski and his colleagues are expected to make decisions about several key issues, including the undemocratic process for choosing a new flag and seal, overreach of government, a fix for last session’s controversial school resource officer law, emergency responder shortages in rural communities, and more.

“The start of a new legislative session, particularly one where Democrats control the government, is always a real risk for Minnesota taxpayers,” Senator Drazkowski said. “What taxes will they raise? What new excessive and expensive regulations will they impose? What new control will they try to exercise over the lives of private citizens?”

“My goal as your senator is to look out for your best interests, protect your pocketbooks, and keep government out of your way so you can live and work in freedom,” Senator Drazkowski added. “To do that, I need to hear from you. Please send me your thoughts, your ideas, and your questions, and together we can try to make this state a better place. It is an honor to serve you.”
