Senator Goggin: Some of the best career options are shut out of our schools
(St. Paul, MN) – Senator Mike Goggin (R-Red Wing) is taking action after hearing reports that some school districts are not giving military, skilled trades, and manufacturing recruiters proper notice and access to career fairs hosted by schools. He presented his bill, SF 15, in the Veterans and Military Affairs Finance and Policy Committee today. The bill reforms current legislation to ensure students get to hear presentations on a variety of professions.
“If we do not present all career options to our students, we do them a great disservice,” Senator Goggin said. “The military is a great choice for students to build their skills while earning tuition assistance for future education.”
Senator Goggin added, “The upcoming generation can take advantage of the changing economy and the growing need for an increased workforce in skilled trades and manufacturing. There are more opportunities than ever for those who are interested in branching out from the standard degrees at 4-year universities. They can enter the skilled trades without much expense and enjoy a stable, well-paid career for the rest of their life. We are guaranteeing every student has access to all career options so they can make an informed decision for their futures.”
