Senator Housley: No clear direction forward after today’s decision

Today, Governor Walz announced his decision on school reopening for the state of Minnesota. Senate Republicans have encouraged the Governor to allow local districts to decide the best way to safely educate students this school year, and not issue statewide mandates or decisions. The announcement today from Walz rolled out a complex set of guidelines for school reopening. Senator Karin Housley (R-St. Marys Point) released the following statement in response:

“Today’s decision still leaves our schools, teachers, and parents in limbo. Even now as we approach August, there is no clear direction forward. School districts are only being given limited decision-making power. As they try to navigate what this school year may bring, they will know at any moment Governor Walz may pull the rug out from under them. I am disappointed in the lack of resolution we have today.”
