Senator Karin Housley (R-Stillwater) today released the following statement in response to the state’s record $17.6 billion surplus:
“Today’s news of a $17.6 billion surplus is staggering—this is clear evidence of the constant over-taxation that Minnesota families suffer from year after year. Last year, Senate Republicans fought for meaningful relief, only to find opposition as we neared the end of Session. Now that our state finds itself with a Democrat-controlled government, it is so important that Senate Republicans continue our commitment to fighting for Minnesota families and their pocketbooks. Families are already suffering at the hands of inflation and are concerned about the possibility of a recession. We simply cannot afford to see the scope of government grow without providing permanent tax relief to Minnesotans. As we move forward into a new Legislative Session, it’s time that we work in a bipartisan way to prioritize families and their needs, and provide much-needed tax relief.”
