Senator Jeff Howe (R-Rockville) today released the following statement on the state’s record $17.6 billion surplus:
“This unprecedented surplus makes clear what we’ve suspected all along—Minnesotans have been over-taxed for more than a decade and it’s time we make necessary adjustments to the structure of our taxes. Families across the state are facing inflation, rising energy costs, and a possible recession on the horizon. It’s time we put more money back into people’s pockets and take the opportunity to take care of other neglected issues like repairing roads and bridges, providing support for law enforcement, investing in proper care for the disabled and long-term-care patients, and eliminating the tax on social security income. Now is not the time for Democrat policies that grow the size and scope of government. Senate Republicans are committed to fighting for relief for families across the state.”
