A fire decimated several historic buildings in Alexandria Tuesday, forcing evacuations and destroying businesses and apartments. About two dozen residents are displaced, and several small businesses and historic buildings have been demolished. Six fire departments are still working to fight the fire, including Alexandria, Osakis, Garfield, Forada, Carlos, and Long Prairie.
Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen (R-Alexandria) released the following statement in response:
“Today, the community of Alexandria experienced a devastating fire that has resulted in the loss of businesses, homes, and parts of our city’s cherished history,” said Senator Ingebrigtsen. “While we mourn these losses, I thank god knowing that nobody was killed in this tragedy. I want to extend a thank you to the first responders for their quick and tireless work and will keep them in my thoughts as they continue to bring the fire under control.”
“This is a difficult time for everyone, Alexandria, but more so for families and businesses impacted by this fire. I want to thank everyone in the community for already rallying around these folks, and offering their support,” continued Ingebrigtsen. “While we grieve for this loss, it is without a doubt that Alexandria will rise above this.”
