The Senate insulin proposal authored by Senator Scott Jensen (R-Chaska) passed the Health and Human Services Finance and Policy Committee today.
Senator Jensen’s bill is similar in many ways to the House bill sponsored by Representative Michael Howard (DFL- Richfield). The Senate version prioritizes renewability, portability, and virtually immediate enactment. Most importantly though, this bill provides 30 days of emergency insulin to anyone regardless of income as long as they are Minnesota residents in need of the medicine.
“We have made great strides, and this bill is moving forward,” said Senator Jensen. “Good compromise takes time and dedication, and I am proud to say we continue to search diligently for common ground and shared perspectives. This legislation will have a great impact on many Minnesotans. I look forward to presenting this bill to the Senate in the near future and appreciate Governor Walz’s willingness to inject energy and commitment to the task at hand.”
