Minnesota Senate Republicans announced this week that Senator Julie Rosen (R-Vernon Center) will once again chair the Senate Finance Committee, a position she held during the 2017-2018 legislative session.
The Finance Committee is widely seen as the top Senate Committee, because every bill that appropriates money or obliges the state to spend money must be heard in the Finance Committee before being voted on by the full Senate. In addition, the Senate Finance Committee chair is responsible for working with Senate Leadership to study state revenues and set the budget targets that determine state expenditures.
“It is an honor my colleagues have once again trusted me with this important role,” said Sen. Rosen. “For years, we’ve watched examples of wasteful spending keep piling up. Even the thriftiest citizens support government investments in the things we need, like great public education and safe roads, but Minnesotans also expect us to be smart with their tax dollars. We simply have to exercise more caution. I look forward to working with Gov.-elect Tim Walz, Majority Leader Paul Gazelka, and Speaker-designate Melissa Hortman on delivering a budget that not only fulfills our promises to Minnesotans, but does so intelligently and responsibly.”
Senate Republicans also announced a full slate of committee chairs for the upcoming biennium.
