(ST. PAUL, MN) – Senator Mary Kiffmeyer (R-Big Lake) has been appointed as a senate member to the Child Care Task Force created by the Legislature in the 2019 session. The task force is responsible for giving recommendations for improvements to family child care licensing and regulation.
Some of the duties of the task force include identifying challenges that childcare providers face during the licensing and registration process, regulatory changes to improve efficiency of licensing, plans for improved recruitment and retention, and more.
“Child care programs deliver an important service to families and providers desperately need regulatory relief. During the last two sessions, several bills I carried did get signed into law giving a start on relief. I am confident we will work hard with all involved to find reform to serve families and child care providers better.” said Senator Kiffmeyer.
The task force will convene for its first meeting on August and will submit its first interim report by March 1, 2020. Senator Kiffmeyer added, “We will ensure our day care facilities are given the tools they need to run efficiently as they serve the families and children. I look forward to working with this task force to develop informed strategies that will support programs around the state.”
