As Chief Senate Author, Limmer’s funding bill led to police training expansion
ST. PAUL – On Monday afternoon, elected officials, law enforcement, and city staffers gathered to celebrate the opening of the newly expanded North Metro Range (NMR) training facility in Maple Grove.
“When I see this building, I am reminded of the purpose of government found in our State Constitution, and that is the safety of its citizens. This building represents that promise, said Senator Warren Limmer (R-Maple Grove). “As the legislature weighs how to improve our police force and law enforcement training, we needed some new ideas to accomplish our goals. This building also represents that effort.
“I was honored to cut the ribbon opening the new ‘state-of-art’ North Metro Range training facility in Maple Grove today. As the chief author of the bill for this expansion, I want to thank Maple Grove Mayor Mark Steffenson along with Maple Grove Police Chief Eric Werner as vital partners to make this building a reality. It really took a village to get this done, and it’s a great day for Maple Grove, Hennepin County, and the entire state to have this resource available,” Limmer concluded.
NMR is used by more than 20 local county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as post-secondary institutions. It is expected more than 3,000 officers and public safety attendees will use the facility every year. The state provided $3.5 million in bond funding in 2021 for the expansion- which more than doubled the original building size- at a total cost of more than $17.2 million.
