Following the release of the Office of the Legislative Auditor’s review of the Office of Minnesota Information Technology Services (MNIT) Senator Mary Kiffmeyer (R-Big Lake), Chair of the Senate’s State Government Committee, issued the following statement:
“I find the legislative audit to be
disturbing and frustrating, dealing yet another damaging blow to an agency that
has had a history of disgracefully wasting taxpayer money with no
accountability. While the report comes with little to no surprise, reinforcing
failures already outlined in the MNLARS audit, the new report clearly shows how
MNIT has been completely mismanaged.
“With situations describing ineffective leadership, a lack of proper oversight,
and a failure to adhere to our state laws MNIT has shown that it cannot
adequately or sufficiently provide oversight on our state’s IT software
development.
“MNIT must be held accountable for
its actions and work with state agencies and the legislature to implement the
proper internal reforms. The Senate has led the way on increasing
accountability and will take an in-depth look at the Auditor’s report to
develop a structure that ensures the state delivers reliable, fully-functioning
IT projects that the people of Minnesota deserve.”
