State Senator Jeremy Miller (R-Winona) was recently recognized for his work and support of people with disabilities by the Minnesota Organization for Habilitation and Rehabilitation at Winona ORC’s annual recognition banquet.
“Ever since I was elected to the Senate eight years ago, one of my most important efforts has been supporting people with disabilities,” said Senator Miller. “I am proud to play whatever role I can to ensure these men and women have opportunities to be successful and engaged members of communities throughout the state. This is truly a passion and a priority of mine.”
In 2017 the Senate Jobs and Economic Growth Committee, which Senator Miller chairs, authorized a $3.5 million increase Extended Employment Provider rates so organizations like ORC can help connect more individuals with disabilities with employment opportunities.
“Senator Miller’s support, advocacy, and leadership have made a tremendous difference in the lives of tens of thousands of Minnesotans who want to work,” said Heidi Smith, Executive Director of Winona ORC Industries. “We have been lucky to have this relationship and look forward to a long partnership for years to come!”
The award was one of several recognitions Senator Miller has received recently for his work on a variety of issues, including…
- Clean Energy Economy of Minnesota – Clean Energy Legislative Champion
- Helmets to Hardhats – Connecting active members of the military and veterans to careers in the construction trades
- Southeast Minnesota League of Municipalities – Outstanding Regional Legislator
- Minnesota Grocers Association – Legislator of the Year and Hero of the Food Industry
- Minnesota Association of Centers for Independent Living – Outstanding Support and Dedication for People with Disabilities
- AVIVO: Recognition for leadership
- Choices of Southeast Minnesota – Certificate of Appreciation for Championing Cause of Displaced Homemakers
“I ran eight years ago to help make a difference and get things done,” added Senator Miller. “I am humbled by the recognitions I have received, but this job is not about awards – it is about doing my very best to get positive results for the people of Minnesota.”
