Senator Rarick’s Ecolab bill passes Senate

On Wednesday, Senator Rarick’s (R- Pine City) Ecolab legislation passed the Senate on a unanimous vote of 66-0. The bill, S.F. 226, creates an exemption from plumbing license requirements for certain individuals who service or install chemical dispensing systems in commercial settings or service or replace dishwashing machines in commercial settings.

“This legislation provides us an opportunity to support a local Minnesota business by providing some easy regulatory relief,” Senator Rarick said. “I want to thank Ecolab and the Minnesota Pipe Trades Association for working together with me to reach a compromise for this bill.”

Ecolab brought the legislation forward to allow their trained technicians to service and connect commercial chemical dispensers and commercial dishwashing machines manufactured or distributed by the company. While current law does not explicitly require a license in these situations, it has been interpreted to apply the licensing requirements. This bill creates an explicit exemption provided that certain requirements are met.
