On Tuesday, Jan. 3, Senator Torrey Westrom (R-Alexandria) took the oath of office and was officially sworn in for the 2023-2024 legislative session. Senator Westrom proudly represents Senate District 12, which includes communities in Big Stone, Douglas, Pope, Stearns, Stevens and Swift counties.

Senator Westrom will serve as the Republican lead of the Senate Agriculture, Broadband and Rural Development Committee and as a member of the Senate Finance Committee.

“It’s an honor to represent Senate District 12 at the State Capitol, and I will work hard to protect our rural values,” Westrom said. “This session, we have a huge $17.6 billion budget surplus to give back to taxpayers through permanent tax cuts and rebates. Also, one of the biggest needs is addressing the critical labor shortage in so many small businesses and health care facilities. I am dedicated to continuing to find ways to better Greater Minnesota and our state as a whole.”
