Senator Westrom condemns Senate Democrats’ lockstep vote to end bipartisan power-sharing agreement

On Monday, Feb. 3, moments after swearing in newly elected Democrat Senator Doron Clark (DFL-Minneapolis), Senate Democrats introduced a resolution to end the Senate power-sharing agreement that guided the first three weeks of session.

State Senator Torrey Westrom (R-Alexandria) released the following statement:

“Just minutes after swearing in their 34th member, Senate Democrats seized their one-vote majority to dissolve the power-sharing agreement. This decision included all eight members of the ‘moderate’ Blue Dog Caucus, more accurately known as the Senate DFL lapdog caucus. Once again, these members followed their party’s lead, helping to push through a partisan agenda.

“I am concerned that the recent bipartisan momentum may not continue, and that Senate Democrats will not prioritize a unified agenda that puts Minnesotans first.

“I hope House Democrats, who have been notably absent from their duties, were paying attention. They face a similarly narrow margin in the House, yet Senate Republicans have been present at the Capitol, diligently fulfilling the critical responsibilities our constituents expect. It’s really been quite a dichotomy.”
