Several cities in southeastern Minnesota will receive additional state funding for needed infrastructure projects. The communities include Kasson, Mantorville, and Oronoco.
“The funding awarded to Kasson, Mantorville, and Oronoco will allow them to get to work on infrastructure projects that are vitally important,” said Sen. David Senjem (R-Rochester). “Each of these communities completed an extensive application process and was thoroughly vetted by state officials, which speaks to both the hard work of the local governments and importance of the projects. These will be state dollars well spent.”
The City of Kasson was granted funding from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) for a reconstruction of Highway 57 between County Road 34 and Eleventh Street NE in Kasson. The funding was made available for fiscal year 2021 and is made possible by MnDOT’s Municipal Agreement Program, which provides state funds to locally-developed and administered trunk highway projects.
Oronoco Township was named the recipient of a $36,000 grant through the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (PFA)’s Small Community Wastewater Treatment Program. The financing will be used for an evaluation of sanitary sewer options for the Sunset Bay area. Funds come from the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment passed by Minnesota voters in 2008.
Finally, the PFA awarded the City of Mantorville a $1.87 million Point Source Implementation grant and a $468,834 loan through the Clean Water Revolving Fund. These funds will be used to construct a lift station and force main to direct the city’s wastewater to nearby Kasson for treatment. According to the PFA, local taxpayers will save approximately $82,289 in interest costs compared to market rate financing.
“Having worked alongside these communities for years, I know first-hand how important this funding is for the area,” Sen. Senjem continued. “This is tremendously good news.”
Sen. David Senjem is serving his fifth term in the Minnesota Senate. He represents Senate District 25, which includes communities in Dodge and Olmstead counties. Sen. Senjem serves as chairman of the Senate Capital Investment Committee and is a former majority and minority leader.
