At the end of the 2017 session, Gov. Dayton line item vetoed funding for the legislature. He did this in an attempt to force legislators to return to the bargaining table to renegotiate some of the bills that he had signed into law. On Wednesday, a Ramsey County Court ruled the governor’s veto unconstitutional. In response to the court’s decision Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen (R-Alexandria) released this statement.
“I agree with the decision that the court made. It is important to send a strong message that the three branches of government are separate and equal. Giving the governor the power to eliminate the elected voice of the people would set a dangerous precedent. I am disappointed to learn that the governor has decided to file for an appeal. I think Minnesotan’s are tired of the governor playing politics on the taxpayer’s dime.”
